End of January the SNTD Belgium Team, following a contact previously made on a drug information booth at the Percussion Music Festival in August in Brussels, the team was then invited to deliver two full drug education lectures of 1h40 each to groups of adolescents in a school of Laeken.
In addition the students had the possibility to mimic the drug alcohol and cannabis drug effects on the human behavior using simulation glasses.
The two lectures were delivered to some 163 adolescents in presence of 6 professors and the 2 psychologists of the school.

For each lecture, first the lecturer gave information on what a drug is, the physical and emotional dependencies referring to alcohol and cannabis, the entrance gates to drug use; then another lecturer gave her personal testimony on her 25 years of drug use and how she was with a strong motivation able to stop.
Thereafter there was a Q&A section. Each student received a booklet set from the series The Truth About Drugs and were kindly asked to write down their appreciation about the lecture.

The feedback from the students were very positive, such as: “ I learned today that drugs are very damaging and it’s dangerous physically, but also mentally. I really liked the lecture and the testimony.”
The teachers as well as the psychologists liked the presentation. An educator even suggested that it should be important to have this type of information repeated along the grades to keep the message alive.
