Back in Brussels, the capital of Belgium but also the core of Europe with the European Institutions. Brussels center is well known for its historical Grand Place, the Manneken Pis and the Jeanneke Pis among others. The 9th Percusounds Festival* took place in the center of Brussels, during the Friday 25 to the Sunday 27 August.
This unique annual percussion festival of Brussels is high in colors, rythms and dances animated by many musical and cultural groups and associations. Among them were the volunteers of the Say No To Drugs Belgium association (SNTD.Be) whose particularity is the information of the public and youth on the dangers and the harming effects of the drug use.
The SNTD team gathering 11 volunteers set up their booth in the Muntplein and were active during the 3 days offering their well documented educative materials, booklets, DVDs or the remarkable Educator Guide for the teachers.
Many contacts were made with: teachers from different schools, health professionals, firemen, social educators, religious people, several police officers, of course Belgian people but also officials and visitors from different countries, and many parents and their chidren as well as youngsters on their own. All wanted to discover more about this scourge which is invading the society either having specific questions or asking for a lecture or requesting materials from the campaign the Truth About Drugs.
An other interesting point is people who asked how they could help the team to spread these data among the public. Altogether, during this Percusounds Festival 2023, 7970 booklets in French, Dutch and English were distributed to the public, 182 booklet sets (a series of 14 booklets) were given to specific persons, same for 49 DVDs with testomonies, 2 Educator Guides were given and 4 others will be send. A useful informative event in a time of cheerfulness and happiness!
