Effective Drug Prevention in Sidi Bel Abbes (Algeria)


Following contact with inhabitants of the beautiful town of Sidi Bel Abbès (Algeria), who were concerned about the protection of young people against the drug consumption and abuse, an association “No to drugs, Yes to life” was created there, identical to the ones existing in France.
Catherine, the President of the French association (SNTD FR) had been invited to make a presentation of the Drug Prevention Education Campaign materials. These materials, created identically, are used not only throughout France, but also in Europe and internationally: The Truth About Drugs.
Thus, early March 2020, the SNTD FR President accompanied by a volunteer, Olivier, went to Sidi Bel Abbes where they had the possibility to meet with students, very interested by getting correct information as well as the City officials and authorities seriously concerned by the drug subject and the protection of the youth and of the population at large.

The students

Indeed, Catherine had been received by the Office of Sports of the Wilaya (an administrative department) of the City of Sidi Bel Abbes and by the Office of Social Affairs (directly connected to the Ministry).During her visit,
Catherine had the opportunity to do a lecture on the harmful effects of drugs to students in psychology -and the way to tackle the problem- in the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University Djillali Liabès, and another one, more official, in the Central Library of the University of the Wilaya, in front of directors, doctors and psychologists aware of the drug use dangers.

Meanwhile, she had also gotten the drug prevention support of the famous judoka Benamar Belkheir, Red White belt holder, 5th Dan, 2 World Championship, 5 African Championship and also international expert.

This was a successful and informative visit that brings together groups with the same goal: the protection of the youth from the drugs.
