It’s in this large country of the European Union that Dites Non à la Drogue France (Say No To Drugs France), with a dozen groups spread throughout the territory, every week disseminates prevention information to the population and to teenagers, revealing the destructive effects of the most commonly used drugs. This is done through booklets, lectures and the free provision of educational materials for educators.
Aware of the crucial importance of their protective and educational actions, the volunteers are regularly on the street distributing booklets to passers-by, holding information stands, visiting stores whose owners greatly cooperate in distributing the materials, as well as public protection agencies and social services. All are interested in these information tools for the general public giving factual answers about the most used drugs.
Here are the Say No To Drugs statistics to date (May 2021) concerning the distribution of booklets alone:
January: 20,830
February: 21,901
March: 48,939
April: 30,055
May: 40,439
Moreover, motivated by the ongoing pressures and talks about legalization, these French volunteers intend to reach and inform more youth and public than last year. Indeed, only a preventive, factual and serious education of the public and especially of the young people, provided before the dealers contact them, will be able to put a serious curb on this modern time plague which has not been considered at its inception to its full extent.
Let’s remember these words of the previous UNODC Executive Director: “When we are talking about the lives and futures of the next generation, prevention is truly better than cure”.
