Beginning of June, the 70 volunteers of the St Hill Lions Team gathered in the Oxford Street and in the legendary square of London created in 1819: Piccadilly Circus with its Eros Fountain. This is also a busy area and an important road junction. The purpose: to bring The Truth About Drugs, a vast drug prevention campaign, to the youth and population on the harming effects of drug use.
This way, in one day, more than 11,000 booklets were distributed to passers-by, tourists and also in the shops around. Everywhere the volunteers were warmly welcomed and congratulated for this action because most, not to say all, of the people contacted were aware of the importance of the drug problem (18.6% of aged 16-24 in England are using drugs-June 2022) and of a needed education on the subject.

There was also some remarkable contacts made. Among others, this couple which got the booklet “The Truth About Marijuana”. 15 min. later they came back to the volunteer and the man said: “I want to thank you, you saved my life. I have been smoking for a long time and didn’t want to stop. Now I have understood and I’m going to stop. You saved my life!” And the wife, enthusiastic of this decision, added after a big hug to the volunteer: “You saved our lives, I’ll never forget you!”
Isn’t it a great acknowledgement for the volunteers and the campaign The Truth About Drugs? More on drugs: www.drugfreeworld.org
