For the celebration of the World Day of Health (7 of April), and to get aligned with the final words of the World Health Organization Director-General’s Opening Remarks: “And so this World Health Day, we call on all governments to choose our planet, our health. Our planet, our health”, European Say No To Drugs Teams did drug prevention actions in their area. Indeed the purpose is to inform the youth and the public at large on the harmful effects of drug use.
Germany
The Sag Nein Zu Drogen, Sag Ja Zum Leben Teams of Germany did a 3 days Concert Tour in Saxony which is one of the 16 Federal States of Germany.
According to local news, drug abuse has increased in this area in the past 2 years, since Covid hit. They were 18 volunteers from Berlin, Dusseldorf, Munich, Stuttgart, motivated to travel there to do educational drug prevention events in the cities they visited: Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz.
The volunteers were helped by the musical contribution of young artists. Thus the volunteers were able to distribute no less than 6000 booklets The Truth About Drugs.
During their events they had the possibility to be in direct contact with the public. Parents and teachers alike expressed concern that young people are turning to illegal drugs at younger and younger ages !
This was also for the volunteers a good opportunity to explain the drug harmful effects on body and mind and to answer personal questions. A person from the State Headquarters for Addiction visited the booth, happy for the action, and took a full set of the educative materials.
Thank you for reading and keep safe from drugs !
