In the frame of the celebration of the Overdose Awareness Day, the Team of volunteers of the association “Sag Nein Zu Drogen, Sag Ya Zum Leben” (Say No To Drugs, Say Yes To Life) from Vienna, held their booth from 18:00 to 21:00 the September 1st on the Schwedenplatz, a famous sqare in the center of Vienna. This place formerly Ferdinandplatz had been renamed after the World War II to thank Sweden for the aiding.
The drug prevention action of the association was so well appreciated by the public that the booth just started to be set up that the people were already coming to get information, materials, and even proposing to help the team in their activity!
The booth was visited by several parents eager to get more information on the different drugs. Indeed, they wanted to be able to have a solid basis and factual data on the health harming effects of the drug use, to talk about with their children.
The team had been also contacted by Educators for data to use with their youth or students, Social workers for concerned people, a Lawyer for his clients, a Medical doctor for his office, all were asking for educative materials (booklets, DVDs, brochures…) they could use or for having a lecture done. And as usual, the team had the visit of the police who was very supportive of their drug prevention actions.
Altogether, an important useful action getting interest not only from the adults but also from the youngsters who came on their own to get data and to have answers to their questions on this vital subject.
Thus, the volunteers were able to bring 718 “Facts about drugs” from the series The Truth About Drugs, amongst the population and 17 signed the Pledge to have a drug free life.
In total, the Austria Team got again a lot of agreements and nice acknowledgements for this life saving and public utility action.
